Paving Superintendent
Overview:
This position will support Concrete Placing Co., Inc.’s paving division. Plan, coordinate and supervise concrete paving field operations. Provides technical direction and is responsible for overall quality of work.
Establishes productivity goals and measures performance. Schedules labor, materials and equipment including work of subcontractors. May supervise one or more field foreman.
Responsibilities:
- May supervise staff including: establishing and communicating performance expectations, providing positive and constructive feedback, determining training and development needs and conducting on-the-job training. May conduct Career Development Reviews. May make hiring, discipline and/or termination decisions.
- Manages the construction plan for the successful execution of the work. Coordinates the means and methods, manpower, equipment and material resources required to accomplish this goal.
- Prepares the Monthly Progress Report in coordination with the appropriate people. Uses available reports to manage costs and prepare accurate cost projections.
- Prepares the original CPM Project Schedule. Coordinates incremental schedules with the Field Foreman and subcontractors for monthly updates.
- Conducts weekly subcontractor coordination meetings. Reviews short duration schedule responsibilities.
- Prepares daily field status reports.
- Reviews the Procurement Schedule. Indentifies items which could cause detrimental schedule problems for the project. Researches alternatives for the Project Managers approval.
- Assists as needed in the review of all supplemental subcontracts and purchase orders, change orders and cost control budget adjustments.
- Coordinates the documentation of design conflicts and clarifications with the appropriate personnel.
- Reviews pay applications from subcontractors and suppliers and help with the preparation of the monthly pay application.
- Coordinates and performs the timely completion of all punch lists and develops a schedule as required for the successful start-up and turnover of all systems to the owner.
- Provides feedback to estimators for use in future bidding or negotiations.
- Supports Company efforts to obtain new work by remaining alert to business opportunities and sharing information with appropriate company personnel.
- Participates in activities to support the Company’s strategic planning efforts and/or improve specific business or construction processes.
Qualifications:
Must have a minimum 3 to 5 years with supervising concrete paving or 5 to 8 years paving foreman experience and/or technical training or related experience.
Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods), negotiations, engineering, cost control schedules and safety required. Excellent communication, organizational and supervisory skills essential.
